Our background

The GPLU was established on 9 May, 2016, within the Demand, Access and Management Service Line in the Division of Cancer Access and Support Services, as a result of many years of collaboration between Gold Coast Health and the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (PHN). The GPLU incorporated the standalone role of the GP Liaison Officer (GPLO) within a larger team.

  • Providing expert advice relating to quality improvement and clinical-related systems and procedures.

After graduating from the University of Pretoria in 2000, he obtained clinical experience in a wide range of settings and specialities, before qualifying as a General Practitioner, with fellowships from the RACGP and RCGP (UK).  Dr de Wet completed a Higher Academic Fellowship with NHS Education for Scotland in 2008 and has since led or contributed to a wide range of research and educational projects, presented findings at national and international conferences and has many publications in peer reviewed journals. Dr de Wet is the co-author of Safety and Quality in Primary Care – the essential guide (2014), the Head of General Practice for Griffith University and also works as a GP in a local practice.
